The rapid adoption of AI is reshaping the media industry, sparking a need for new skills and talent. According to Kantar, 72% of media leaders feel their workforce must adapt to stay relevant in this evolving landscape. This shift is driving changes in recruitment, with 66% of leaders recognizing the need to hire from outside the media industry. Interestingly, while only 27% currently consider AI skills crucial, nearly 70% predict AI expertise will become essential within the next three years. Similarly, demand for tech-based skills like data science is expected to rise significantly.
Despite the buzz around AI, communication and storytelling remain the most valued skills, with 79% of media leaders ranking them as essential. However, this gap between current demand for AI and its projected importance highlights a shift on the horizon. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into media operations, businesses will need to invest in both human-centered and technical expertise to stay competitive.
For businesses to thrive, embracing AI’s potential and preparing for these future demands is vital. As AI continues to revolutionize the way media operates, companies that adapt quickly will be better positioned to stay competitive in this changing market.
